Psycosis91's News

Posted by Psycosis91 - September 4th, 2007

So I submitted my latest movie, and I hope you all enjoyed it, follow this link if you haven't seen it yet.

Well I've added a couple of mini bits in the movie, did you find any of them? Let me know if you did and/or what you thought of the movie!

Also Stamper.

Ya think it's narcissism? Hell, it's just truism.

Hey guys, just thought I'd post some random news! Lately I've been downloading a lot of Virual Console games, so much that my wii only has 2 blacks of memory left, so far I have:

Sonic The Hedgehog
Donkey Kong
Bomberman
Super Mario 64
The Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros.
Super Castlevania IV
Donkey Kong Country
Street Fighter II
Mario Kart 64
Super Mario World
Zelda II
Urban Champion
Excitebike
Kirbys Adventure
Kid Icarus
Ocarina of Time
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Streets of Rage
Toe Jam & Earl
Paper Mario
Donkey Kong Country 2
Lylat Wars
F-Zero X
A Link To The Past

So yeah, that's hella Virtual Console, I've been playing a lot of F-Zero X lately after completing Paper Mario again, and that game is just amazing, I didn't get it for the Nintendo 64 and now I regret it.

So PAX is over and done with, and gamespot had a live hour for the first 2 days that was pretty awesome, the first demo for Day 1 was Castle Crashers! Tom and Dan showed the awesome multiplayer stuff in the game, the arena (my favourite being the chicken eating one). OF course yuou could choose between the 4 main characters, but they had 16 '?' slots, I can't wait to get that game. If you haven't seen it go to http://uk.gamespot.com/events/pax07/li ve.html and click Day 1, it's near the start.

PAX reminds me of all the awesome games coming out before christmas, and then I'm reminded that I live in Scotland and have to wait even longer for them. You know we don't even have Super Paper Mario here yet? It comes out September 14th, and I'll be buying that first day. I have a lot of money set aside for videogames and I hope I can win the monthly award with Thwomps (I doubt it, there has been a lot of really amazing movies this month) so I can add to that collection. ;D

I've been playing a lot of Xbox demos as of late. I downloaded the Bioshock demo, that looks amazing but I'm not to sure I'll get it straight away as I'm not such a big fan of FPS games. I also got the Stranglehold demo, which I totally want as I was a huge fan of Max Payne and this is pretty much the same. And the skate. demo, that looks cool and the whole trick system is great when you get the hang of it.

So that's really all that I'm doing, working on some short stuff in flash, and a music video I'm hoping to release sometime next month. It's hard to animate to it with the game it's based on, but a September release it what I'm aiming for. But since school has started I don't have as much time to spend on it.

Peace.

I like to mention this at least once every month, and some recent reviews have got me thinking AGAIN. A string of 5 bad reviews or so on my latest movie and tons on my other works, I'd like to get your view on it and I hope I'm not alone.

My view: I'd rather was a greatly animated drawn movie than a sprite movie, but I'd prefer to watch a sprite movie than a movie with bad art. Sprite movies can flaunt the same creative skill and work as drawn movies, it's just a lot don't. I agree that 90% of sprite movies are totally garbage and unwatchable, but that goes for any type of movie really. It's hard to watch a movie with really bad art. It's unfair to hate a sprite movie because it's a sprite movie, but its fine to hate a movie for a bad story or bad jokes, if a sprite movie can have good story, good jokes and smooth animation then it shouldn't be caught in the net of sprite hate.

So what would make you 'sprite haters' enjoy a sprite movie? Just have it entertaining so it isn't like every other sprite movie out there giving them a bad name? Or how about I make every single sprite and background myself 100% custom? Will that rid the effort-less stereotype? I'm sick and tired of working on a sprite movie just to have one reviewer say 'dude sprites suck man' and get me pissed, no matter the amount of praise I get I always get sad at the bad reviews, especially when all they hate it for it because it's a sprite movie, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even watch it.

I'd like to get your view on this, and please give an honest view and opinion on sprite movies, I'll probably delete all the stupid comments or ones that add nothing to the discussion.

So yeah, Thwomps: The Movie met it's deadline and has been reelased, you can watch it by click this link: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/

I can't really think of anything else to say, you can use this to comment on the movie further if you want. Here are some notes I made about it, but only lookie if you've seen it first ;D

Thwomps: The Movie notes:

- 26 fps
- over 31000 frames
- over 20 minutes long
- .fla size 410mb
- 30 scenes (squashed to 10 frames so it could fit under the frame limit)

- Animation started on January 3rd, exactly one year after Thwomps 1 was released and for some reason front page'd

- Thwomps 1 was made becuase I found some funny thwomp sprites on MFGG and thought they'd be good in a movie, I then made up a half-assed script and gave it to the two guys that were online at the time who had microphones, turns out the formula works as it now stands at an overrated 3.73

- The first scene I made was the popcorn/castle montage scene

- One of the backgrounds in that scene is my 'Creation Of Thwomp', and parody of Creation Of Adam.

- This was meant to be finished in Febuary, lol.

- Most of the jokes came from rambling with my friends at school, my friend Ross thought up the idea of the hat on the strong and a thwomp turning into Kirby. My friend Gary (voice actor of the janitor thwomp) and I made the majority jokes in the movie.

- To my knowladge this is the longest sprite movie ever, the longest before this was SMBZ standing in at 16-17 minutes.

- The new Pimp Thwimp car is from my now cancelled hydraulics rhythm game

- Marty is from Mario Kart 64 in Bowser's Castle. His name comes from various MK64 forums and his long winded way to release him is the way people have made up to unlock him as a playable character. In his scene the Bowser Castle music is playing.

- The last scene is poking fun at the first flash in the thwomp series, innovatively called 'The Thwomps'

- I stopped working on this in Febuary and April to work on my two Pico games, I also stopped working on it to make other short movies that I actually submitted on their own to NG, usually they would become easter eggs in this movie

- There are no easter eggs in this movie

Well that's all I can think of about this movie, I hope you enjoyed it and feel free to comment about it here.

Thwomps: The Movie is out!

I haven't submitted anything really 'good' this year (besides the pico games), and that's becuase I've been working on my latest sprite movie for 7 months now, I hope to release it on August 10th but getting Paper Mario on the VC has really distracted me.

So here's a screenie for the 5 people who still care about sprite movies.

Sprite Movies? Oh I remember them.
